WELCOME TO THE WILMINGTON, DE CHAPTER OF EWGA!

EWGA is a national not-for-profit organization formed in 1991 and includes over 14,000 women golfers in the United States and Canada.  The mission is simple - EWGA connects women to learn, play and enjoy golf for business and for fun.  The vision is clear - EWGA is the premier force for promoting women's golf.

Our Chapter offers networking, golf and education events for golfers of all skill levels residing in Delaware and neighboring areas of Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.  Our members are our most valuable asset.  That's why membership will continue to play an important role in the continued heath and growth of our Chapter. The Wilmington, Delaware Chapter was formed in 2001 and consisted of 24 members.  We currently have approximately 90 members at all levels of play.  Our members are business owners, corporate executives, professionals, stay-at-home moms, retirees and entrepreneurs.  All of us share at least one thing in common - love for the game of golf!

Don't worry about your score - we want you to play golf with us.  We offer leagues and golf events at every level, from beginner to expert. Our top-scoring members shoot under 80 for 18 holes while many of us are still working to break 100.  Some of us don’t even keep score (although we encourage you to start doing so once you're comfortable)!  There's something for everyone.  We offer monthly outings with different formats including four-person scrambles, stroke play and best balls.

EWGA is about fun, friendship, networking, opportunities to play golf and skill development.  We hope that both renewing members and new ones will take full advantage of all that EWGA has to offer.  After all...

IF WE'RE NOT HAVING FUN, IT'S NOT WORKING!!

MEMBERSHIP

Membership with choices.  Membership with value.  EWGA is the way for women to get connected to golf!  Working women, retirees, students -- there are a vareity of membership levels to suit your needs.  Click here for more information.  For a listing of all member benefits, click on the "Benefits" tab at the top of the page.

HANDICAPS

A handicap is important because it allows golfers at any skill level to compete on an equitable basis.  Posting all of your scores will give you an accurate measure of your level of play.  EWGA provides a free handicap service as part of your membership benefits.

PACE OF PLAY/ETIQUETTE

Did you know that it takes about an hour to actually "play" 18 holes of golf?  The other 2½ to 4 hours is "logistical positioning" or getting to the next shots with the right equipment.  The slowest group on the course dictates the pace of play for everyone behind them.  Any group that gets out of position, especially early in the day, affects many groups behind them.  Please be mindful of your own habits and how they affect pace of play.  Click here for some tips to help you keep moving on the course.  Please note that many of these tips have nothing to do with rushing your play, but rather with simply being ready to play, and with using common sense and good etiquette on the course.

THE FIRST TEE OF DELAWARE

The mission of The First Tee of Delaware is to impact the lives of young people in the state of Delaware by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.  Our Chapter, as well as many of our members, are supporters of this wonderful organization.

Our most recent support was an equipment drive that was held in conjunction with our Tee-Off Event on March 22.  In response to the support received, Charma Bell, Program Director/Coach and Chapter member, asked us to convey the following message:  "On behalf of everyone at The First Tee of Delaware, THANK YOU EWGA WILMINGTON, DE CHAPTER for all of the wonderful donations.  Everything received is greatly appreciated and will definitely assist hundreds of children statewide.  The generosity and support from the EWGA is key to the continuing success of our program.  We are looking forward to a great partnership and seeing EWGA members at several events this year.  Thank you again EWGA for all that you do and for caring and sharing with The First Tee of Delaware."

Morgan Pressel in position to capture first victory since 2008

GLADSTONE, N.J. -- Winning the Sybase Match Play Championship would be quite an early birthday present for Morgan Pressel, who turns 24 next Wednesday. Given the recent arc of her career, though, just making it to Sunday morning's semifinals is a well-earned gift in itself.

Pressel's best finish in 2012 was a T-20 at the Kia Classic. She is looking for her first victory since 2008. After a rousing comeback victory over No. 2 seed Na Yeon Choi Saturday morning, Pressel defeated Anna Nordqvist 5 and 4 Saturday afternoon. For Pressel, who will face 24-year-old Azahara Munoz of Spain on Sunday, this week has been a big step forward. (Candie Kung and Vicky Hurst will square off in the other semifinal.)

"No matter what happens, this is the best I've played in a long time," Pressel said. "I finally feel comfortable with my game again to a point where I haven't been in a while. I'm going to give it everything I have tomorrow. But I just have a lot of confidence going into the heart of the season."

Pressel has been working recently with instructor Ron Stockton, previously her short-game coach, on all parts of her game. She is trying to recapture some of the magic that made her the youngest winner (18 years, 10 months, 9 days) of an LPGA major championship at the 2007 Kraft Nabsico.

"Certainly people put expectations on me -- the media, the fans, my sponsors, everybody wants me to play well," Pressel said. "Having won the Kraft so young, I'm never going to say it was a bad thing. I mean, I'm a major champion, the youngest in LPGA history. I probably more than anybody else put extra pressure on myself to really be a world-beater, and I don't think I was quite ready for that and don't think I was quite mature enough for that."
